PBID

Why PBID :: What is a PBID?
WHY MIDTOWN NEEDS TO BECOME COMPETITIVE
Competition between Commercial Areas is getting more intense. As property and business owners we need to realize our competition is not just with other businesses but also with other commercial areas.

The public sector cannot solve all the problems facing Midtown today. PBID services are designed to supplement not replace existing services already provided by the City of Sacramento.

PBID is a special benefit assessment district set up to raise funds within a specific area (boundaries). All funds raised are returned to the private non-profit corporation governing the district. This non-profit corporation should be made up by a majority of property owners as well as some business owners from within the district.

A PBID is an assessment on real property.

Before the district can be formed, property owners paying over 50% of the total assessment must sign petitions in support of the district. We are now in our petition drive and would like your support. There is also a mail-in ballot process, due to Proposition 218, that we will be doing as well.
Many benefits to a PBID in Midtown:
  • By joining together in an organized and unified manner we are better able to leverage additional funds from local government that would otherwise go to other commercial areas.

:: Florin Road, Fulton Avenue, and Sunrise MarketPlace in Citrus Heights have all managed to leverage additional funding for improvements since the formation of a their PBIDs.

  • Improvement of the Image and Perception of Midtown.

:: Services proposed for the Midtown District

:: Public safety or security program with bike patrols.

:: Advocacy program to leverage additional government funds for the area.

:: A communications, advertising and business recruitment program to promote the Midtown business environment.

:: A program to look closely at the parking and transit issue in Midtown, including public transit.

  • The funds raised will be managed by those who pay.
  • This PBID has a lifespan of 5 years therefore it is very accountable. Once it sunsets, we must go through this whole petition and ballot process again to get it renewed.
